Public consultation on Guidance Note 7

Guidance Note 7 - Transitional arrangements in modern awards sets out the Fair Work Ombudsman’s (FWO) approach to interpreting and applying the model transitional provisions in modern awards.

Modern awards commenced on 1 January 2010. However, transitional arrangements in most modern awards defer many pay-related entitlements until the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2010.  The changes will be phased in over a four year period, ending on the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2014.

The Fair Work Ombudsman finalised Guidance Note 7 on 1 June 2010 after a public consultation process.

The Fair Work Ombudsman received 15 submissions on the draft Guidance note and made a number of changes to the final version in response to the submissions.

The key issues that arose in the submissions are set out in the Fair Work Ombudsman Consideration of submissions to Guidance Note 7.
